Year 1 EMG
The Year 1 EMG (English, Mathematics & General Ability) program is designed for high-achieving students ready to tackle more advanced material. Through engaging and challenging modules, students strengthen core skills in English, mathematics, and general ability while developing critical thinking and problem-solving strategies. The course lays a strong academic foundation and introduces students to essential skills in reading, language conventions, and numeracy—preparing them early for assessments such as NAPLAN and the OC placement test.
English
English lessons focus on strengthening reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, and language conventions. Students will engage with age-appropriate texts and interactive tasks to build a strong foundation in grammar and communication. The program aims to nurture a love of reading while enhancing students’ confidence in written and spoken English.
Mathematics
Our Mathematics lessons introduce essential concepts in arithmetic, shapes, patterns, and basic problem-solving. Through hands-on activities and guided exploration, students will develop confidence and fluency in applying mathematical principles to real-world situations.
General Ability
General Ability lessons are designed to sharpen logic, reasoning, and critical thinking through fun and challenging puzzles, brain teasers, and problem-solving tasks. These sessions promote cognitive growth and prepare students for future assessments by boosting their analytical and general knowledge skills.
Year 1 EMG Program
Lesson
Each week, students attend theory lessons that introduce new concepts and build foundational skills. Teachers use lectures, multimedia, and discussions to engage students, encouraging active participation and note-taking.
Weekly Homework & S.O.Q
After class, students complete homework and the Special Online Quiz (S.O.Q) to reinforce learning. Tasks may include reading, writing, and problem-solving. Reviewing and memorising key content is essential for retention.
Watch V.O.D
Students access Video On Demand (VOD) to review lessons at their own pace. They can pause, rewind, and revisit content to clarify concepts and strengthen understanding.
Term Test
At the end of each term, students sit a comprehensive test covering all topics taught. It assesses progress, highlights strengths, and identifies areas for improvement.
Term Test Review
Students review test results to understand errors and reinforce learning. With teacher support, they work through challenging questions and prepare confidently for the next term.
