Year 2 WEMT
The Year 2 WEMT course offers a well-rounded academic program that strengthens foundational skills in Writing, English, Mathematics, and Thinking Skills. Designed to prepare students for the increased demands of Year 3, this integrated course promotes deeper understanding, sharper reasoning, and confident problem-solving through engaging, structured learning.
Writing
The Writing module focuses on helping students develop strong writing skills through well-structured lessons that introduce various writing styles and techniques. Students will learn to plan, organise, and express their thoughts clearly, using logical sequences and appropriate language for different writing tasks. By incorporating critical thinking and reasoning, the module nurtures students' ability to write creatively and persuasively. Frequent writing practice and feedback will improve their confidence and effectiveness in written communication.
English
In the English component, students work to strengthen their reading comprehension and literacy skills. Lessons are built around engaging, age-appropriate texts that encourage students to think deeply and make inferences. Activities include answering multiple-choice and short-answer questions that test their understanding of vocabulary, main ideas, supporting details, and text structures. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation are also covered to reinforce language conventions. These skills lay a strong foundation for academic reading and writing in the years ahead.
Mathematics
The Mathematics module provides students with essential mathematical knowledge, covering number operations, patterns, shapes, measurement, and problem-solving techniques. Lessons use interactive and hands-on methods to make abstract concepts more tangible and relatable. Students will be encouraged to explore mathematical ideas, apply logic, and solve problems using efficient strategies. This foundational learning boosts both fluency and confidence, preparing students for more advanced topics in the future.
Thinking Skills
This module challenges students to think beyond the surface and approach problems with logic and creativity. Through puzzles, pattern recognition, visual and verbal reasoning tasks, students improve their ability to analyse information, identify relationships, and draw logical conclusions. These skills are vital for academic success across all subjects and are especially useful in preparing for gifted and scholarship entry exams. The Thinking Skills lessons foster intellectual curiosity and build students’ ability to approach challenges with resilience and strategic thinking.
